Brand redesign for COD Restaurant, Riga
COD’s branding is a masterful reflection of the restaurant’s philosophy: a harmonious blend of Contemporary Japanese minimalism and Nordic sophistication. At the heart of this identity lies the logo – a bold yet restrained wordmark that encapsulates the essence of balance and refinement. The logo’s serif typography is both contemporary and timeless, with soft curves and subtle angular cuts that hint at Japanese precision while retaining the understated elegance of Nordic design. The letters, spaced with a sense of calm intention, create an open, breathable aesthetic, reminiscent of the simplicity found in Japanese calligraphy and the quiet clarity of Nordic minimalism. The branding as a whole emphasises tactile quality and purity. Textured materials such as raw kraft paper and natural tones dominate the stationery and menus, resonating with the organic elements of both Japanese and Nordic cultures. The absence of ornamental details enhances the sense of authenticity, placing the focus squarely on the essentials—an ethos shared by the cuisine itself.
COD’s branding is not just a visual identity but an extension of the dining philosophy: refined, intentional, and rooted in the harmony between tradition and modernity. Every element, from the logo to the packaging and materials, speaks to the meticulous balance of two distinct yet complementary worlds, making the branding as memorable as the culinary journey it represents.
